Research Assistant (Maternal & Newborn Health) at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine – Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine Kenya Job Details
Key responsibilities will include:
Contribute to developing study protocols
- Contribute to the drafting of study protocols.
- Assist in the development of data collection tools.
- Support the piloting and updating of data collection tools.
- Support training of data collectors and support data collection.
- Contribute to the management of study data
Prepare ethics applications
- Complete standard ethics submission paperwork for LSTM and in-country ethics.
- Coordinate the completion of mandatory training required for ethics application by research team members.
- Track ethics submission and respond in a timely manner to queries from the REC.
- Complete annual REC reports/reporting requirements,
- Systematically file all study documentation-consent forms, ethics documents etc.
Analyse qualitative and quantitative data
- Analyse qualitative data using appropriate software.
- Analyse quantitative data using SPSS, R or STATA.
- Analyse secondary data.
Draft, submit and disseminate research outputs
- Draft research outputs such as conference abstracts, posters, presentations, publications and blogs.
- Coordinating inputs into publications.
- Submit research outputs.
- Actively contribute to submissions for grant funding.
- Actively contribute to partner capacity development.
- Identify opportunities for research output dissemination, nationally, regionally and internationally.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Master’s degree in related field (global health, public health, midwifery, medicine)
- Postgraduate professional qualification, such as the Diploma of Tropical Medicine, or certificate in maternal and child health
- Knowledge and interest in MNH in LMICs
- Understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods
- Experience in reporting and open access publications for donors such as Gates foundation and Global Fund
- Experience in biomedical/ social science research in LMICs
- Fluent in English language and Swahili
