CEMA is a multidisciplinary Center of Excellence that employs data-driven approaches to guide the management of infectious diseases and enhance public health in Kenya and across Africa. Established in 2020, CEMA provides a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment, attracting experts from diverse fields.
Position Description:
As a CEMA Intern, you will contribute significantly to our ongoing research and data-driven initiatives. Working closely with our team of Scientists, Mathematicians, and Epidemiologists, you will assist in developing and implementing innovative modeling techniques to enhance our understanding of disease dynamics, predict outbreaks, and evaluate intervention strategies.
Responsibilities:
CEMA Interns will engage in various activities based on their chosen track:
Software Engineering Track: Assist in building efficient systems for collecting, storing, analyzing, and sharing healthcare data; develop software for health analytics to support research and evidence-based decision-making; ensure interoperability between healthcare systems; collaborate with other organizations for seamless data exchange.
Computer Engineering Track: Focus on artificial intelligence and machine learning; develop algorithms and data analysis tools for processing diverse datasets; create systems for analyzing large volumes of healthcare data; implement machine learning algorithms for predictive analytics; utilize natural language processing algorithms.
Communications Track: Develop content for various platforms including websites, social media, newsletters, and publications; write copy for media and collateral materials; provide communication support to colleagues; create internal and external communications materials; produce training videos; collect content on research progress.
Requirements:
Software Engineering Track:
• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or related field
• Demonstrated interest/outputs in health field
Computer Engineering Track:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or related field
• Demonstrated interest/outputs in health field
Communications Track:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, health communications, or related field
• Strong interest in health and science communication
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Basic photography skills
• Multimedia and broadcast skills preferred
Terms of Appointment:
This is a six-month contract position with a stipend of KES 50,000 per month. Interested candidates meeting the criteria are encouraged to apply online by March 4, 2024. Selection will be conducted through a two-stage process.
