Summary of Key Responsibilities:

As a driver and mechanic for Sign of Hope, primarily operating in Turkana & Marsabit County and/or other regions in Kenya, your duties will include:

  1. Operating and maintaining the project vehicle in excellent mechanical condition, which includes daily cleaning both inside and outside.
  2. Safely driving project staff and visitors to outreach sites, meetings, and appointments, following all traffic rules and showing courtesy as directed by your supervisor.
  3. Taking the initiative to oversee necessary repairs and regular maintenance of assigned vehicles.
  4. Meeting project reporting requirements, including keeping records of vehicle routes and conditions.
  5. Conducting routine mechanical checks on the vehicle, including the cooling system, oil, electrical and brake systems, tire pressure, etc.
  6. Identifying and reporting any issues or malfunctions in the vehicle’s systems.
  7. Ensuring your driver’s license is current and notifying your supervisor when it’s due for renewal, as well as arranging for necessary inspections and registration.
  8. Handling office errands, such as delivering messages/equipment, collecting mail from the post office, and other tasks as assigned by your supervisor.
  9. Loading and unloading goods into/from the vehicle.
  10. Assisting with office tasks like photocopying, picking up supplies, delivering or collecting letters, cheques, invoices, etc.
  11. Performing any additional duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Candidate Profile:

  • Secondary school graduate with more than 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Certification in Vehicle Mechanics; having expertise as a Motor Vehicle Auto Electrician is a plus.
  • At least three years of experience with a private organization, along with a defensive driving certificate.
  • First aid and safety training is an added advantage.
  • Proficient in English and capable of understanding spoken and written English and Kiswahili.
  • Holds a valid BCE driving license with an outstanding driving record free of accidents.
  • Possesses a current and valid certificate of good conduct issued within the past year.
  • Familiarity with current traffic rules and regulations under NTSA.
  • Good knowledge of the counties and their surrounding areas.
  • Prior experience should demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above, along with effective communication with informants and contacts from diverse organizations and agencies.

Conditions:

  • Contract duration: 12 months, including a 1-month probationary period.
  • Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
  • The successful candidate should be prepared for immediate deployment.
