We are a well-established company located in Mombasa, seeking a skilled and passionate Cook to join our vibrant team in our canteen/kitchen. As such, we are looking for a candidate with expertise in cooking coastal dishes, and familiarity with food costing is an added advantage.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a Cook – Coastal Cuisine Specialist, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of coastal dishes to delight our customers. Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Coastal Cuisine Expertise: Bring your in-depth knowledge and expertise in cooking traditional coastal dishes, showcasing the rich flavors and unique culinary heritage of the region.
  2. Menu Planning and Preparation: Collaborating with the kitchen team to plan and prepare a diverse and flavorful menu that appeals to our employees and guests.
  3. Food Quality and Presentation: Ensuring the highest standards of food quality and presentation, making each meal a delightful and satisfying experience.
  4. Food Costing Management: Assisting in managing food costs, portion control, and inventory to maintain the profitability of the canteen/kitchen operations.
  5. Hygiene and Safety: Adhering to strict food safety and hygiene standards to create a safe and clean working environment.
  6. Kitchen Organization: Assisting in maintaining a well-organized and efficient kitchen, including proper storage and handling of ingredients and equipment.

Required Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications and attributes:

  1. Culinary Expertise: Proven experience and expertise in preparing authentic coastal dishes, with a focus on flavor, presentation, and traditional cooking techniques.
  2. Food Costing Knowledge: Familiarity with food costing principles and inventory management to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations.
  3. Hygiene and Safety: Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety in the kitchen.
  4. Creativity and Flexibility: Ability to experiment with new recipes while also accommodating dietary preferences and restrictions.
  5. Team Player: Excellent teamwork and communication skills, collaborating effectively with other kitchen staff to achieve culinary excellence.
